Our Nurses and Healthcare Assistants help patients who will have ongoing and sometimes complex needs at the time of discharge. This requires early planning and regular team and family meetings to discuss progress and future plans.
All brain injuries are unique. The brain can receive several different types of injuries depending on the type of force and amount of force that impacts the head. The type of injury the brain receives may affect just one functional area of the brain, various areas, or all areas of the brain.
The Brain Injury Service provides rehabilitation services which encompasses two clinical pathways – Complex Rehabilitation and Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDOC).
Our nurses help provide a comprehensive screening assessment during admission and whenever possible meet the patient and/or their family to ensure a streamlined admission process.
Our Nurses have specialist training for people who are exhibiting challenging behaviours because of their acquired brain injury, people who have Huntington’s disease and those who require ventilators to breathe.
